Princess Kate may have returned to royal duties after the summer break, but her instincts as a hands-on mom were on full display during a soggy outing in London.
On September 4, the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 43, visited the Natural History Museum to tour its newly transformed gardens—now serving as a dynamic outdoor classroom.
It marked their first joint appearance since the summer holidays, and the couple spent time meeting local schoolchildren exploring the space as part of their studies.
But a sudden downpour brought a pause to the lesson.
As rain began to fall, the group—including children, teachers, and royal staff—huddled under umbrellas for cover. Unfazed by the weather, Princess Kate remained cheerful, smiling and chatting with the pupils while shielding herself with a black umbrella.

In a heartwarming moment, the Princess was seen bending down to cover a young girl with her umbrella, gently guiding her indoors as the rain intensified. She didn’t hesitate to spring into action, suggesting that the group move inside to stay dry.
“We had been waiting for the session to start, and the children were very excited,” said Beverley Brown, assistant headteacher at Kender Primary School, speaking to Hello! “Princess Kate was in amongst us and said, ‘Let them go in,’ and ‘Let’s take them inside, it’s pouring.’”
A mother of three—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis—Kate is known for her down-to-earth parenting style and love of the outdoors. In fact, she’s previously shared her fondness for braving the elements, including a love for cold-water swimming.
“The colder, the better. I absolutely love it,” she said during a 2023 podcast appearance. “Slightly to the point where William’s like, ‘Catherine, you’re crazy.’ And it’s dark, and it’s raining.”
Rain or shine, Princess Kate showed once again that whether in palace halls or puddle-filled gardens, she’s always ready to lend a helping hand.
