Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abtex Promotions, has revealed that he asked President Yoweri Museveni for a government position during their recent meeting.

Abtex, who is widely regarded as the leader of Ugandan music promoters, said the request was aimed at giving promoters direct representation at the highest level of government.
Speaking about the meeting, Abtex said that while he successfully lobbied billions of shillings to support promoters through their SACCO, he also felt it was important to push for political recognition of the events and entertainment industry.
“I told him since he gave the musicians, we also needed one,” Abtex explained. “I wrote it down, though I don’t even know the exact title, but it was something like a presidential envoy in events and entertainment. He accepted, but now I have to wait for official confirmation.”
According to Abtex, the proposed role would see him represent the interests of promoters and the wider entertainment events sector, which he believes plays a significant role in the country’s economy but is often overlooked.
He further revealed that he made some unusual requests, including asking for a car fitted with sirens to help him move easily through traffic. However, Abtex said he deliberately avoided asking for a security detail in order to maintain a low profile.
“I told him I didn’t go to school and that I stopped in P3 West at Kijjabwemi in first term,” he said. “So I don’t want a position with too many protocols. I asked for simple things, and now I’m waiting.”
