Singer Big Eye Starboss has weighed in on the long-standing debate surrounding pay-for-play in the entertainment industry, saying while appreciation is welcome, airplay should never be held hostage over money.

The “Indicator” hitmaker made it clear that he has no issue with artists showing gratitude to media personalities who support their music. According to him, tipping a radio presenter, music director, or DJ can be part of the hustle, especially in an industry where relationships matter.

It’s good for an artist to appreciate and tip a radio presenter, music director, or DJ for playing their song,” Big Eye noted. “However, it’s wrong to refuse to play a good song simply because you haven’t been paid.”

His comments come amid ongoing complaints from especially rising artists who accuse some TV and radio presenters — as well as pioneers in the entertainment industry — of demanding financial incentives before offering airplay.

For years, upcoming musicians have argued that the practice disadvantages those without financial muscle, making it harder for fresh talent to break through. Many believe that airplay should be based on merit and quality rather than on who can afford to pay.

Big Eye’s stance attempts to strike a balance: while appreciation is acceptable and even encouraged, professionalism and fairness must remain at the center of the industry.
