Events promoter Mariam Mutakubwa, better known as Biggie Events, is determined to turn the page after her recent stint in Luzira Prison.

Speaking openly after her release, she pledged to clear all her outstanding debts once she receives funding from the government’s UGX 10 billion SACCO package earmarked for promoters.
She was released from Luzira Prison in mid-November 2025 after spending about a week on remand. Her imprisonment stemmed from a long-running dispute over a loan of UGX 70 million, which she had borrowed to finance one of her major events.
When she failed to repay within the agreed timelines, the lender pursued legal action, leading to her arrest and a six-month sentence.
The promoter explained that although she hasn’t yet received her share of the SACCO package, she’s confident it will allow her to settle the debt that landed her in prison, along with obligations to musician Fred Sebata—whose show she had organized—and others she still owes.
Her tone was one of gratitude as much as resolve, as support from fellow entertainers including contributions from artists like Spice Diana and Ameria Nambala helped settle part of the debt, paving the way for her release.
She also expressed her appreciation to fellow promoters, friends, and family who stood by her during her time behind bars and most importantly singled out Abtex Promotions, praising his relentless efforts to secure her release.
