Media personality Caroline Marcah has shared thoughts on modern dating in Kampala, saying many young women often confuse hookups for proper dates.

Speaking on Shalom 256, Caroline broke down what she believes qualifies as a real date and what clearly doesn’t. According to her, casual meetups are frequently mislabeled as dates, leading to misplaced expectations and unnecessary heartbreak.

Going to a sauna? That’s not a date. A pork joint? That’s not a date,” Caroline said. “We have to differentiate between a hookup and a date. Most people are actually going on hookups.”

She explained that many people enter these situations already imagining something serious, yet the setup itself communicates otherwise. In her view, the problem is not always with the men involved, but with how women interpret the situation.

Caroline added that with time, she has learned to see people for who they truly are. While she admits it’s possible to like someone from the very first interaction if the vibes match, she is careful not to emotionally project future possibilities onto such encounters.

Sometimes we fault these men for no reason because men show the truth from the start, and we are blinded and don’t want to believe it,” she noted. “Love is blind, but you should keep some sense.”
