Singer Dokta Brain has called out DJs he accuses of sidelining Ugandan artistes in favor of foreign music, saying many of them are out of touch with the very culture they claim to represent.

Speaking during a Deep Talk interview with Roger Otis, Dokta Brain argued that some DJs confuse exposure to international music with genuinely relating to it, while overlooking local voices they can easily understand and connect with.
According to him, a number of DJs who brand themselves as lovers of “urban music” are simply putting on an act.
“People who act like they like urban music need to stop thinking that they are related to Chris Brown,” Dokta Brain said. “You guys are just locals who got a chance to be enlightened a bit. Some of you are even pretending. You cannot tell me that you understand everything Kendrick Lamar says, but you can understand Joshua Baraka.”
He further criticized DJs who publicly claim to support urban music but rarely include Ugandan urban artistes in their playlists.
“You find them saying they play urban music, but you will never find them playing Maurice Kirya,” he noted. “They will barely play A Pass, yet he has always stood firm in the urban music space. They will never applaud Ruyonga. Navio has had to fight for himself alone.”
Dokta Brain questioned why internationally established Ugandan artistes continue to struggle for airplay at home, while foreign stars dominate local playlists.
“Instead, they are busy playing Chris Brown,” he added.
