Former Miss Uganda 2023/24, Hannah Karema, is considering taking a bold step into student leadership at Makerere University.

Karema has expressed interest in contesting for the position of the institution’s 92nd Guild President, a role currently held by Ssentamu Churchill. If she officially joins the race and wins, she will succeed Churchill and become one of the few former national beauty queens to lead the prestigious university’s student body.
Speaking in response to inquiries about her political ambitions, Karema emphasized that leadership has always been part of her journey.
“All I can say is that I learn from very many people. But I cannot be there and say, let me do it like so-and-so, because at the end of the day, I want to be me,” she said.
Her statement suggests a leadership style rooted in authenticity rather than imitation, signaling that she intends to bring her own vision and approach if given the mandate.
Karema rose to national prominence after winning the Miss Uganda crown for 2023/24, a platform that has seen several titleholders venture into advocacy, public service, and leadership roles.
Makerere University is expected to hold its guild elections soon.
