Ugandan dancehall singer King Michael has opened up about a dark period in the local music industry when feuds among artists grew so intense that some resorted to acquiring guns.

According to King Michael, there was once an office in Bugolobi where musicians could undergo financial and psychological assessments before being cleared to hire a firearm.

He explained that the move was seen by some entertainers as a way to protect themselves during heightened rivalries.

The singer noted that music battles of that time went beyond the usual lyrical competition and stage rivalry, pushing some artists to take extreme measures.

King Michael’s revelation highlights the intensity of past disputes in Uganda’s music industry, which often threatened to overshadow the talent and creativity of the artists.

Today, however, many industry players are working to promote peace and unity, urging artists to settle differences through dialogue and healthy competition rather than hostility.
