Singer-turned-politician Mathias Walukagga has been disqualified from the Busiro East parliamentary race after the Electoral Commission confirmed that he does not meet the minimum academic requirements for a candidate.

This decision comes weeks after his nomination on November 16, 2025. On that day, renowned city lawyer Male Mabirizi challenged Walukagga’s eligibility, arguing that the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate did not possess the required academic documents.

At the time, many members of the public dismissed Mabirizi’s claims.
However, in a statement released today, the Electoral Commission confirmed that Walukagga failed to provide sufficient evidence of the formal qualifications needed to contest for Member of Parliament.
As a result, his nomination has been officially cancelled.
Walukagga, a celebrated Kadongo Kamu singer, had hoped to represent Busiro East in the 2026 general elections under NUP.
His disqualification now leaves the party with the task of identifying a new candidate for the constituency.
