Following a successful show, Melody UG poured heartfelt praises on Jose Chameleone, describing him as his mentor, elder brother, “general of Ugandan music,” and even “president of East African music.”

The two have been closely working together for well over a decade, however, not in a sense of a formal duo. Collaborations like Nkoleki and Komola massively hit the airwaves back then after Melody was discovered and signed by promoter Sipapa and later introduced to Chameleone.
He recalled how legendary artist gave him a life changing opportunity as his backup artist, a role that helped shape his career. To Melody, the Ugandan legend is nothing less than his musical godfather, who paved a way for him.
In a powerful gesture of gratitude, he knelt down on stage to thank him. Later, when asked why, he explained that kneeling isn’t a bad thing for a man—it’s a sign of respect and humility.
He further emphasized that very few people could ever replace him as Chameleone’s backup artist. “Backing up a big artist like him is not an easy job. It requires someone born talented and very assertive to carry that responsibility,” said Melody.
