Musician-turned-politician Kakunda Nina, popularly known as Nina Roz, has called on the Ugandan government to abolish elections, describing the political environment as dangerous and discouraging for young leaders.

Speaking at the Uganda Law Society’s New Law Year event on Thursday, the Billboard Kipande hitmaker grew emotional as she recounted her ordeal while contesting for the Ssembabule District Woman MP seat on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
“What I witnessed was not an election but rather a war. My agents were beaten, arrested, and others abducted. Up to now, I don’t know where the abducted ones are being held,” Nina Roz said, appealing to lawyers to support political prisoners suffering under the current system.
She warned Ugandan youth against joining politics, emphasizing the personal risks involved. “I advise every youth out there who still wants to live, don’t engage in Ugandan politics, especially when you are from the opposition,” she stated.
Nina Roz further criticized the political environment as discouraging for those who wish to represent their communities in a democratic setting.
“So many youths would like to engage in politics and ably represent their people in a fairly democratic state, but Ugandan politics is discouraging. My call to the government is to abolish elections and rule until you get tired and allow people to live because every life matters,” she added.
She also condemned the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), stating that the party would never allow opposition politicians a fair chance to lead.
