Pallaso has opened up about his painful prison experience in New York City after reacting to reports circulating online about high-profile detainees being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) Brooklyn.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Pallaso said seeing news mentioning figures such as Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, his wife, embattled US music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, and convicted R&B singer R. Kelly being linked to MDC Brooklyn triggered memories of his own incarceration there in 2009.
“If someone is sent there, please keep them in your thoughts. It’s a brutal, isolating experience right in the heart of NYC… I know this all too well,” Pallaso wrote, adding that healing from the experience took him years. He emphasized the toll the facility takes on inmates’ mental health, regardless of their status.
Pallaso referenced news involving Venezuela’s long-serving leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife’s arrest and detention in the United States.
MDC Brooklyn, a federal jail notorious for harsh conditions, has previously housed high-profile inmates, including R. Kelly, who is currently serving a lengthy sentence, and more recently Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is facing serious federal charges and has been held as his case proceeds.
Pallaso concluded his message by urging people to pray for anyone sent to the facility and by drawing attention to mental health struggles linked to incarceration, using the hashtag #MentalHealthMatters—a reminder that even celebrities are not immune to the lasting psychological effects of prison life.
