Ugandan singer Pia Pounds, born Tracy Kirabo, has never shied away from sharing pieces of her personal life. Recently, she opened up about how she navigates breakups—whether bitter or amicable—and how those endings shape her relationships afterward.

Pia, who once endured a very public split from her ex-fiancé, city photographer Daville Mutabazi, revealed that not all breakups follow the same script. Their relationship ended in turmoil after she accused him of impregnating another woman, a scandal that eventually led to his marriage elsewhere.

But she insists that heartbreaks don’t always have to be messy.

When I’m not in love with you, I am not moved by you,” she said, explaining that she often lets her exes move on with their lives just as she does. For her, the way a breakup unfolds determines whether she maintains contact or cuts ties completely.

If we have a bitter breakup where you throw my things out, demean and embarrass me, then it means you’re a bad person and I don’t have anything to do with you when we’re done,” she emphasized. On the other hand, if the split comes from mutual understanding—where both parties sit down, talk, and agree the relationship isn’t working—she’s open to keeping in touch.

The artist also pointed out the practical side of relationships, noting that life has a way of looping people back into your orbit.

Dating is funny. We could have a bitter breakup and then end up when the same person is supposed to give you a job or any help in life,” she said, highlighting how personal fallouts can spill into professional spaces.

When asked to describe her worst heartbreak, she brushed it off with humor, saying she doesn’t recall any of it.
