Ugandan rapper Da Agent has opened up about how he has managed to remain relevant and successful in the competitive music industry despite operating without a manager or record label.

Speaking about his journey, Da Agent revealed that parting ways with management turned out to be a blessing in disguise. According to the rapper, the break gave him time to rest, reflect, and critically analyze his career, allowing him to develop a better strategy to revive his brand and reconnect with his audience.
“As a musician, you have to move with the trend of the generation,” Da Agent explained. “The way we sing now is not the way we used to sing back then, even though we maintain the same style. You must understand the trend, the style, and your audience. I learned what it takes, and I embarked on it.”
The rapper noted that adaptability has been key to his longevity, stressing that understanding evolving music trends while staying true to one’s identity is crucial for survival in the industry.
Da Agent also acknowledged that many artists struggle after ditching management or record labels, with some eventually fading from the music scene. However, he believes continuing to release hit songs independently is a major achievement that deserves recognition.
“Most artists who ditch management or record labels fade off the music grid,” he said. “So, respect a musician who quits management and still delivers hit songs. That is a huge milestone in an artist’s career.”
For Da Agent, performing and connecting with fans remains his greatest motivation. “Performing for fans is what I was tailor-made for,” he added, emphasizing that his passion for music and live performance continues to drive his success.
