DJ Selecta Jef has revealed that he played a key role in shaping the brand of one of Uganda’s celebrated artists, disclosing that he, together with BeenieGunter, is responsible for giving Daddy Andre his now-famous stage name.
Jef made the revelation while congratulating Andre upon his recent introduction ceremony with Sylvia Suubi. As he reflected on their journey, the DJ opened up about how far back their relationship goes, describing Andre as his “day one little brother.”
According to Selecta Jef, they first connected around 2016 going into 2017. The link-up happened through Andre’s elder brother, who was working as a bar attendant at the time. He introduced Jeff to his younger brother, mentioning that he was a talented musician.
That introduction sparked a friendship and working relationship that would later blossom into something much bigger.
“Daddy Andre is my day one lil brother. We started linking up in 2017, probably 2016 coming to 2017… Actually it was me and Beenie Gunter that named him Daddy Andre. He was just Andre,” Jef revealed.
From being simply “Andre,” the name “Daddy Andre” was born — a brand that would soon dominate the Ugandan music scene.
Over the years, Daddy Andre evolved into a household name, not only as a singer but also as a gifted producer and songwriter. He has written and produced numerous hits for himself and other artists, carving out a unique lane in Uganda’s music industry.
