Media personality and businessman Shakib Lutaaya has spoken out about betrayal and fake friendships following his crushing defeat to Rickman Manrick in a high-profile celebrity boxing match held in August 2025.

The much-talked-about bout ended badly for Shakib, but instead of breaking him, the loss offered a powerful life lesson. According to Shakib, the experience exposed the difference between genuine supporters and fair-weather friends who only show up during moments of success.

Reflecting on the aftermath of the fight, Shakib revealed that his phone was constantly buzzing after his earlier victory against J. Kazora, with friends and well-wishers eager to celebrate him. However, the situation drastically changed after his loss to Rickman.

Notice who’s in the locker room after you lose, not after you win,” Shakib shared. “After my win against J. Kazora, my phone wouldn’t stop ringing. After I lost to Rickman, I even saw some of the people I walked in with laughing at me, and only four or five stayed standing by my side.”

He added that boxing is a brutal but honest teacher, quickly revealing who truly cares when things go wrong.

Shakib advised people to be cautious about the company they keep, noting that real friends are those who remain loyal during tough times, not just moments of glory.

Despite the humiliating defeat, Shakib has not backed down. He has publicly called for a rematch with Rickman Manrick, hoping to redeem himself in the ring. However, Rickman responded by setting a hefty condition, stating that he would only consider a rematch if Shakib can put up at least Shs 100 million.
