Gen Z for Gen 7 has awarded Madam Jane Barekye, the State House Comptroller, in recognition of her leadership in advancing youth transformation through the effective implementation of the Presidential Skilling Hubs.

In an economy where the future of young people is increasingly defined by skills rather than credentials, the skilling hubs have emerged as a strategic intervention. Under Madam Jane Barekye’s supervision, the program moved beyond intent into execution prioritizing practical training, inclusion, and alignment with real market demands. For thousands of young Ugandans, particularly Gen Z, these hubs have provided more than technical skills. They have created pathways to self-reliance, strengthened household incomes, and reduced vulnerability among youth who were previously disconnected from opportunity. The result has been a measurable shift in confidence, productivity, and community stability. The impact has also extended into the national political and social space. By addressing everyday economic realities facing young people, the skilling hubs helped bridge the gap between government policy and lived experience. This contributed to increased youth engagement, trust in public institutions, and support for the NRM and the President, demonstrating how socio-economic empowerment reinforces political legitimacy.
Gen Z for Gen 7 recognizes Madam Jane Barekye not only for managing a program, but for shaping a model of governance where youth empowerment is practical, accountable, and results-driven. Her leadership illustrates that skilling the future is not an abstract vision it is a deliberate process that transforms lives and strengthens the nation.
