SunCulture Uganda, an agriculture and climate technology company, has announced an expansion of its inclusive insurance product, SunCulture Protect, to now cover the family members of smallholder farmers across the country. Originally designed for individual Pay-As-You-Grow customers, SunCulture Protect is now available to all SunCulture customers, including those who pay via cash, and offers the option to include multiple family members under a single plan.
“Our mission is to help farmers grow more food, earn more income, and live more resilient lives,” said Keneth Eyal, General Manager of SunCulture Uganda. “With this upgrade, we are strengthening the safety net for farmers and their families, ensuring they have protection not just for their crops, but for their health and livelihoods too.”
Every farmer’s journey is built on dedication: early mornings, long days, and a deep commitment to feeding their communities. But when illness or accidents strike, the financial burden can threaten everything they’ve worked for. That’s why SunCulture partnered with Turaco to offer SunCulture Protect, an affordable, bundled health and life insurance product specifically tailored to the needs of smallholder farmers. It is designed to provide accessible financial protection in times of medical or family emergencies.
Key features of SunCulture Protect include: coverage for multiple family members under a single policy, availability to both Pay-As-You-Grow and cash customers, hospiCash benefits of up to UGX 900,000 per month to support hospital stays, and a Last Expense benefit of up to UGX 1,500,000 to help with funeral-related costs
“We want every farmer to focus on what matters most: feeding the nation, building strong communities, and sustaining livelihoods, without the fear of being set back by unexpected medical costs,” Eyal added. “This insurance offering supports our broader goal of helping farmers thrive, both in the field and at home.”
Enrollment is simple and quick, requiring only a National ID, and can be completed through a SunCulture field agent or customer support.
“Smallholder farmers play a central role in sustaining communities and protecting their households. This is vital for long term resilience,” said Cedrick Todwell, Group Director of Business Development at Turaco. “The expansion of SunCulture Protect reflects our shared commitment to making insurance simple, affordable, and accessible for farming families. We are proud to do this work with SunCulture because they understand farmers deeply and remain committed to solutions that genuinely improve livelihoods. Together, we are giving families a stronger safety net and helping farmers stay secure through life’s uncertainties.”
The expansion of SunCulture Protect marks another step in SunCulture’s ongoing commitment to building resilience among Africa’s smallholder farmers, not only through climate-smart technology, but through meaningful financial solutions.
