Ugandan-born designer Joe Malaika’s Excessive Fashion is far more than a runway show—it’s a powerful platform amplifying marginalized voices, creating visibility for minority communities, especially those with limb differences and developmental disabilities.

Driven by purpose beyond fashion, the Boston-based designer extended impact by giving back to amputees in Uganda.

Joshua (cancer survivor) and Paul Wasswa (Amputee Self Awareness Uganda) received prosthetic legs—a poignant testament to Malaika’s commitment to dignity, access, and empowerment.

Gustavo Leon, a revered Boston fashion icon, and Keyla Williams, a visionary fashion entrepreneur, graced the event, while Esther Mutesasira, a talented Ugandan native, entertained alongside Eros Canetti, adding to the electric atmosphere.

The 11th Excessive Fashion (Marriott Boston) was a breathtaking display of courage and inclusion.

Randy Adams (resilient U.S. Army veteran, Washington) and Fats Timbo (London-based talent with short stature, flew from London) owned the runway alongside models with Down syndrome, developmental disabilities, and amputations—a striking testament to Malaika’s unwavering vision of inclusive beauty.

The evening pulsed with fiery energy; guests wholeheartedly embraced the bold red-black theme, embodying unity and celebration.

As an international, award-winning designer, Joe Malaika empowers individuals often overlooked by mainstream fashion.

Though his designs haven’t yet graced Ugandan runways, Malaika’s profound humanitarian impact resonates deeply.

Excessive Fashion ensures every voice, regardless of ability, is seen, celebrated, and shines brightly.
