Singer Ykee Benda has criticized women he says have unnecessary standards in marriage, warning that such attitudes will keep them “loitering” in search of good men.

The singer made the remarks while responding to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by user Dorah Muhanuuzi, who reflected on how many African households were structured around male authority.

Dorah wrote: “Many of you grew up in households where the father was served first, even in his absence, and always received the largest, juiciest portion of the food. For many African children, the first lesson in authority is waiting for a man to eat before you can touch food you prepared.”

Her post appeared to question traditional norms that prioritize men in domestic settings. However, Ykee Benda dismissed the argument, suggesting it misrepresents basic acts of respect and kindness within a relationship.

“Mukyazunga nnyo,” he responded.

“A man provides the food but you have a problem serving him first because ‘you prepared it?’ That’s not even authority, it’s basic human kindness, bunch of fools yall are becoming n it only comes clear when you are 45/50.”

He further laughed at the original take, adding that such perspectives are the reason some women keep “loitering” while searching for good men.

The comments have since divided opinion online, with some agreeing with the singer’s stance on traditional roles and mutual respect in marriage, while others argue that serving a man first should not be framed as an obligation tied to provision.

Ykee Benda’s remarks come months after he held a customary marriage ceremony with Emily Nyawira in September 2025, a milestone that many believe has influenced his more outspoken views on relationships and family structure.
