NEWS: President Yoweri Museveni has come out to explain the details of the cause of the series of murders in the city in the recent times as the nation continues to mourn another harsh shooting and killing of staunch NRM and Arua Municipality MP Ibrahim Abiriga.

Abiriga, former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Arua and Yumbe, was brutally shot and killed along with his body guard Kongo Buga as he made his way home in Kawanda, Wakiso District in his famous yellow Volkswagen vehicle on Friday evening by unknown gunmen.

A host of MPs and members of the public have expressed fears of the nature of the murders and think government is not doing enough.

President Museveni has taken to his Twitter account (which we have reproduced below) to explain some of the murders and warns government will pounce on the killers and urges the public to cooperate.

These criminals think that they will kill people to fail and discredit the government. Rest assured we shall stop them. Whoever kills will pay with their own blood. My request to you the public is that you cooperate and collaborate with us.

The NRM government does not want to disturb people’s peace. It is why we do not stop you from drinking at midnight like it is in other countries. However, criminals mistakenly think they will use that peace to disturb people.

I prefer that we use our intelligence to fight crime and I request the public to cooperate with our security agencies. Also, we might ask that all vehicles and motorcycles have tracking devices to help us locate them.

About the murders. First, our country has developed. We have many roads, cars, motorcycles etc. However, I have opposed the idea of erecting roadblocks as a deterrent to insecurity. They will inconvenience people.
