Angella Chebet Vivienne, the wife of troubled socialite SK Mbuga, could soon be extradited to Sweden to face charges of fraud if the government of Sweden wins an extradition request to Uganda.

The spokesman of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID), Vincent Ssekatte, yesterday confirmed the arrest of Chebet over charges of money laundering.

Vivian was arrested from her home in Muyenga, a posh Kampala suburb, over the weekend and taken to Katwe police station after it emerged that $6m (about Shs23b) belonging to Stein Heinsoo, a Swedish national, had allegedly been wired to her account.

Ssekate said Sweden officials are expected in the country soon to meet the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) so as to have Vivienne extradited to Sweden since she committed the crime in same country where she is also a citizen.

Vivienne was arrested in Sweden in 2017, taken to court but she managed to secure bail and flee Sweden on a boat, she later landed in Kenya where she entered Uganda by road.

Her husband, SK Mbuga, was last week released by the United Arab Emirates and transferred to Denmark. Mbuga was arrested in the United Arab Emirates locked up at the Awiir Central jail in Dubai, a port city on the Persian Gulf, over fraud involving Dubai and Oman businessmen.

He now faces another fraud case in Denmark involving $2.6m (about Shs9.5b) in a gold deal gone bad. Before his arrest, Vivienne and SK Mbuga had lived a lavish life with many questioning the origin of their wealth.
