A Uganda People’s Defense Forces-UPDF soldier is at large for shooting and injuring a commercial sex worker in Kisoro district.
Andrew Niwagaba, who is attached to the 35th Battalion Nyakabande in Nyakabande Sub County in Kisoro district, is wanted for shooting and injuring Annet Uwimana, a commercial sex worker at one of the Pubs in Russia Village, a popular hub for commercial sex workers in Kisoro municipality, in Central Division ,Kisoro municipality.
Charles Okotto, the Kisoro District Police Commander, says the soldier shot Uwinana in the wee hours of around 03:00am in the wee hours of Sunday morning after he found Uwimana dancing with an unidentified reveler.
He says the suspect who was armed with an AK47 rifle opened fire shooting Uwimana on the right shoulder before fleeing into hiding.
Ely Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, says Uwimana was rushed to Kisoro Hospital where she is admitted, adding that they have launched a manhunt for the suspects in liaison with the military.
In related development, Bundibugyo Police are holding a man accused of strangling his father ,Yofesi Kule Kilimunda, to death.
The suspect is 27-year-old Ezekiel Baluku, a resident of Bundibuturu 1 village in Bundibuturu parish in Kirumya sub-county
The Bundibugyo District Police Commander, Taban Swaibu, says the incident occurred around 10pm on Friday night at the deceased’s home in Bundibuturu 1 village.
According to Taban, the suspect charged at his father when he tried to stop him from fighting an undisclosed visitor.
The suspect’s wife, Annet Kyakimwa, says trouble started when her husband returned home drunk and started quarreling with his father’s visitor who was using his torch.
She says Baluku’s father intervened to try and stop a fight between him and his guest, prompting the suspect to attack him and strangle him to death.
