Kyadondo East member of parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi , commonly known by his stage name Bobi Wine has reechoed that he is determined to contest for presidency come 2021.
While addressing people Arua Hill primary school grounds on Sunday, March 24, 2019 in Northern Uganda, Bobi Wine said that President Yoweri Museveni’s days in power are numbered.
He also responded to President Museveni’s call to him to leave politics and concentrate on music, saying Museveni was talking like that because he knows his days in power are numbered.
The Kyadondo East MP said he will not leave politics because he has an agenda for the country, just like Museveni joined the armed struggle in the 1980s instead of sticking to cattle keeping.
“You said that as a musician I should stick to music alone, but remember when you were my age you did not stick to keeping cattle. When you were my age, you were busy interacting with cows and goats but at my age I have been interacting with the common people,” Bobi Wine said.
The MP, who is the official leader of the popular People Power movement, said he will not be cowed by the threats directed his way.
According to Bobi Wine the president uses threats because he fears competition.
“How can you say you went to the bush to fight against oppression and to install democracy and yet 33 years later you cannot have democracy in your own party?” he questioned.
The self-styled ‘People Power’ slogan leader joined other leaders and politicians including Mugisha Muntu, Members of Parliament and others to celebrate with their Arua Municipality counterpart, Hon Kassiano Wadri who had a thanksgiving ceremony.
This was Bobi Wine’s first return to Arua since the August 13 2018 turmoil where he was arrested with over 20 people including MPs who were campaigning for Kassiano. His driver was shot in that stand-off. They are currently facing treason charges; accused of masterminding chaos which left the president’s car damaged.
Last week, the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party okayed President Museveni’s 2021 candidacy and he later advised Bobi to stay in singing, not risking the presidential race.
