Adoni Education Centre in Mukono district has been closed after bees attacked school children and other residents in Kigombya and Wantoni villages .

The attack that happened yesterday left a 6 year old pupil in top class nursing injuries. Jane Nakku, a grandmother to Glenn Wasswa said: “I was on the verandah washing clothes when I saw the compound cleaner and a hawker running and shouting for help.”

“I rushed to the school and found that the teachers had run out of the school,” she added.

Joseph Kityo, a hawker and one of the people attacked said: “I was hawking clothes like I usually do when I bumped into bees which attacked me.”

The chairperson of Wantoni Village  Moses Nyombi said that they have done their best to spray the bees in the past three years but they keep coming back.

“We have done our best to see that we spray these bees but they keep returning,” he said.

He has called on Umeme to replace the pole which normally houses the bees because it is becoming dangerous day in day out.

The Mukono Town mayor George Kagimu promised to work hand in hand with Umeme to ensure that the pole is replaced.

“We have visited the school near and the pupils today haven’t gone to school.”
