A section of Members of Parliament (MPs)  are demanding that parliament influences the slashing of the current fee charged in the verification of academic documents on grounds that it is too high for those seeking to aspire for public offices in 2021 elections.

The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) bills Uganda Shillings 600,000 for what they term as special verification of academic documents.

Notably, Paul Mwiru of Jinja East MP and Luttamaguzi Ssemakula Nakaseke South Mp among others harmoniously asked for the intervention of parliament in lowering the fee imposed by UNEB especially as the country approaches a political season.

However, the UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule says the fee is the standard rate for special verification while  300,000 shillings is charged per level for anyone ordinarily, politician or not.

UNEB recently issued a circular to all the political aspirants to verify their academic documents.

According to the circular, Presidential aspirants and MPs must hit the deadline of 15th May while district chairpersons have up to the 15th of April, 2020 to verify their academic documents.

The aspirants will also be required to hand in copies of their certificates to be verified, an introductory letter from the respective schools, a copy of the National ID in addition to paying 600,000 shillings as verification fee.

But the MPs largely fear that UNEB may end up attracting suits against it for being stiff.
