Parliament has Tuesday passed a motion creating Terego District from Arua City.
The house has adopted a motion for creation of the new district of Terego District from Arua. The motion was moved by Raphael Magezi, the Minister for Local Government. The Clerk to Parliament, Jane Kibirge assisted by Clerk Assistants tally had 236 MPs vote for, 2 against and 5 abstained.
The district shall compromise of Terego County East and Terego County West with its headquarters at Leju Trading Centre in Aiivu Sub-county. It comes into effect on 01 July 2020.
Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, however, said that the motion on Tororo district will be handled separately. “I commit to have this issue of Tororo handled conclusively”. Magezi says that motion will be in Parliament in 15 working days.
