The fate of the newly appointed deputy lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura lies in the hands of the City council authority will on Monday the 22nd June 2020 decide whether to endorse her to office.
Nyanjura was appointed by the lord mayor Erias Lukwago on Thursday last week after the resignation of Sarah Kanyike who was appointed by President Yoweri Museveni as the director of the gender, community service, and production at Kampala Capital City Authority- KCCA.
The controversial lord mayor had prior to the new appointment given Kanyike a 3-day ultimatum to declare her position on being appointed by the president.
Lukwago had wanted Kanyike to reject her new appointment but she declined to accept his offer.
Much as the KCCA Act allows for the Lord Mayor to appoint his deputy, the City authority council has the mandate to either reject or approve appointments made by the mayor.
Lukwago also appointed Moses Kataabu, the councilor Kampala Central Division to replace Doreen Nyanjura.
The two appointees are slated to appear before the KCCA Council for approval today when the Council convenes.
Kanyike’s new appointment puts her under the supervision of Dorreen Nanjura.
At the time of the appointment, Nyangura FDC was serving as the elected Local Council 5 (LCV) Woman Councillor, representing Makerere University at KCCA since 2016 and as the Executive Secretary in Charge of Finance.
Nyanjura possesses a bachelor’s degree in Arts and Tourism from Makerere University .
