Despite a decline in the daily tally of COVID-19 infections registered in Uganda, the Ministry of Health-MOH is in the process of procuring 40,000 test kits for a new community survey to confirm the presence of undetected COVID-19  cases.

The permanent secretary, Dr. Diana Atwine says the MOH has opted to institute another community survey that is crucial to stopping hidden community cases.

According to Atwine,  they have realized patches of positive cases in communities and there is a need to determine where these cases.

Of recent Uganda has registered scanty cases of COVID-19 in the districts of Jinja, Kyotera, Amuru, Entebbe and Kampala.

This proposed survey is not the 1st in Uganda, In April 2020,MOH launched a campaign called Rapid Community Assessment that resulted in a 0.003 percent community transmission of COVID -19.

Under the campaign,23,000 vulnerable persons including taxi drivers, LDUs, security personnel, religious leaders, health workers from mainly 50  border districts were tested for  COVID-19.

Currently, Uganda has 774 Covid-19 patients after confirming 4 new cases on Monday morning out of 2.224 samples were tested.

2 are of truck drivers who arrived from South Sudan via Elegu border and Kenya via Malaba points of entry while the other 2 are contacts and alerts to previously confirmed cases from Amuru and Kyotera districts.

Uganda also has 631 COVID-19  recoveries, 256 active cases, and 0 Deaths.
