Members of parliament solidified the unheard voices of the people in demanding that the Speaker summons government before parliament to explain why they have continued to discriminate against certain sectors of businesses in the economy.
Th Legislators argue that refraining businesses from opening them without offering any relief is suicidal to the operators.
On Monday while updating the nation on COVID-19 the president refused to further lift the lockdown on other businesses under the pretext of social distancing issues.
Owners of businesses like saloons, arcades, bodabodas, had expected that this time around the president would address their plight and open business but in vain.
Opposition Whip Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda during a plenary session on Tuesday said since the closure was a temporary measure, the government needs to come up with a strategy to address the plight of people who are still in lockdown.
Semmujju requested that the government presents itself to parliament with a solution for the categories that have not been allowed to go back to work after over 90 days of the lockdown because they cannot survive any longer.
The majority of the Legislators expressed disappointment with the lockdown on businesses saying most Ugandans are chocking on debts accumulating from rent to utility bills and cannot even afford a mere meal a day.
Also, Kawempe North MP Abdulatif Ssebagala who spoke for the bodaboda riders noted that they are suffering due to lack of business since the most important luggage for the Boda Boda riders is passengers who have been banned from using this transportation.
The president refused to release Boda Bodas saying because it is very difficult to guarantee social distancing between a rider and a passenger,
Museveni also noted that, since Bodas reach where vehicles cannot reach its harder to trace contacts in case of COVID -19 infections. He, therefore, said motorcycles, should only carry luggage.
