Police in Entebbe has impounded 3 vehicles used by two foreign nationals to thieve from unsuspecting dealers of mobile money.

The two Indians Hussein Umar, 18, and Akasah Faizo were arrested after they robbed money from James Ongom, a Mpesa agent.

The duo who are currently in custody at Entebbe police post have been using hired vehicles to carry out their illicit activities.

The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police mouthpiece Luke Owoyesigyire says the 3 vehicles that were used in these thefts were impounded after being tracked down using CCTV cameras.

Owoyesigyire says by the time of their arrest, two victims had already filed complaints at Entebbe Police Station.

Owoyesigyire adds that the suspected thugs have been traversing the country in the areas of Entebbe, Kampala, Katwe, Jinja Municipality, Abayita Ababiri, Mbale, and Kabalagala Townships cheating and drugging mobile money operators before robbing them.

The duo reportedly moves with 2 accomplices, a sister called Talal Kaibo and grandmother, Wahil Ibrahim, 64, who are still at large.

Police reports indicate that the thugs work by approaching a mobile money agent and tricking them into buying a refreshment for them before stealing from their cabin.

However, when an agent rejects their request to buy a drink, they gesture one of the female accomplices from the vehicle to come with chloroform that is applied to the victim before they do the cash robbery.

Owoyesigyire has cautioned all mobile money and MPesa agents to remain vigilant and always report suspicious people to the police said.
