The Uganda people’s defense forces have launched investigations to an incident in which a soldier fired live bullets at a church leader, killing him on the spot.
The army spokesperson, Brig, Richard Karemire, who described the incident as regrettable has also announced that the Patrol Squad Commander Lt Talent Akampurira and Private Lokwapa are in custody.
Karemire assured the family to the deceased that the perpetrator will be arraigned before the military court when they sit and charged accordingly.
He however said investigations are underway to establish what exactly happened.
The deceased is Benon Musimenta a lay reader at Kogore Church of Uganda, who was carrying his wife Allen Musimenta on a Boda Boda to the garden when he was gunned down on Wednesday morning.
Allen Musimenta says they were stopped by soldiers at a roadblock on Karungibati on Hima-Kasese road.
Allen narrated that when the soldiers ordered them to stop they obeyed, however without a word, one of the soldiers decided to open fire on them shooting Benon on the neck dead on spot.
Private Lokwapa Abraham is responsible for recklessly killing the civilian.
