The Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Minister Amelia Kyambadde has warned that all landlords of arcades that have refused to participate in the ongoing inspection exercise will not re-open.

Speaking on Wednesday at the media center, Kyambadde says over 58 arcades have been sealed off by the government because the landlords failed to comply with the COVID-19 Inspection Taskforce that was put in place to assess the re-opening.

The task force is meant to evaluate arcades for the observance of  Standing Operating Procedures-SOPs like not operating in corridors and stairs, ample space for the occupants, proper aeration, good lighting, and CCTV cameras at entrance and exit among others.

Kyambadde says some of these sealed off arcades have only met a small fraction of the requirements like buying sanitizers and temperature guns which is not enough.

She maintains that these arcades will remain closed until they choose to comply with the inspection requirements.

Kyambadde has also encouraged salon operators and traders to ensure they all possess temperature guns at their premises if they are to operate smoothly.

She says prices of temperature guns have drastically reduced to as low as 200.000 shillings from 700.000 shillings which is quite affordable.

Kyambadde told arcade owners and traders to take advantage of the reopening to do the needful and not wait on the government to provide.
