The deceased is a 34-year-old Ugandan woman and resident of Mabyale Sub County in Namisindwa district who presented with signs and symptoms of COVID-19..
She was rushed to Joyce Hospice Health Centre in a critical state with difficulty breathing on Wednesday but died shortly after.
She reportedly presented with COVID like signs and symptoms like fever, dry cough, and headache.
On Wednesday her samples were drawn and taken for testing at Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe
The Ministry of Health Director-General of Health Services Dr. Henry Mwebesa made the confirmation on Thursday evening.
By Thursday morning, COVID 19 Surveillance teams in Mbale and Namisindwa Districts had already traced and isolated over 50 people believed to have in contact with the deceased as they await results of the patient.
Some of the contacts have been quarantined in Namisindwa district while others remain at the health facility in Mbale that has since been cordoned off and is now out of bounds to the public.
The surveillance team in Mbale is now tracing for the people who were at the health center at the time the deceased was hospitalized to be quarantined for the mandatory 14 days.
