The government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa has passionately declared to rally her support behind the state minister for lands Persis Namuganza for the hotly contested post of the second National vice-chairpersons in the Central Executive Committee –CEC.
Namuganza is competing against the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga who has stayed this position for more than 2 terms.
Nankabirwa is now openly campaigning for Namuganza as witnessed in a social media message forwarded to several NRM groups to plead with the voters, to elect people who sacrifice for the party.
In another message, posted by the Chief Whip on the Mubende Political forum, Nankabirwa emphasises the need to write a statement in black and white by voting for Namuganza.
Nankabirwa claims she has opted to stand with Namuganza because Kadaga is not promoting NRM ideologies, yet the position she is vying for requires someone who can ably work with the president, as the chairman of the ruling party.
She alludes that Kadaga has used this position for personal gain and has asked people not to elect any candidate who doesn’t respect its party organs. CEC is the second topmost organ of the NRM party.
Nankabirwa says that she alone knows what she has gone through with Rebecca Kadaga as the Speaker adding that as many have observed,
Kadaga has been witnessed severally taking an objective stand on national matters and challenging the government on matters that cast it in a bad light.
Sam Obbo, the Principle Press Secretary to Kadaga says that it is grossly unfair to judge the Speaker on what she does in the August house objectively.
