Over 6 Million Youths to Line up, Electing Village Committees and Councils Across the Country

The elections of Village Youth Committees is happening today Monday 17th August 2020, in all the villages across the country where the positions are being contested.

Voters under the electoral body are lining up behind candidates’ portraits or candidates’ symbols or candidates’ agents or the individual candidates of their choice across of the 68.741 villages in the country.

This means that the members of the Youth Committee shall be elected by members of the youth Council from among their number.

The voting that is underway will not go beyond 4:00 p.m.

The Village/Cell Youth Council shall consist of youths who reside in the Village/Cell and who are willing to be members of the Village/Cell YouthCouncil.

According to the electoral commission,7.5 million youths registered to participatein the exericise.

The EC has also encouraged all persons participating in the elections to comply with guidelines issued by the Government of Uganda and Ministry of Health measures against the spread of COVID-19.

This includes observing social distancing, hand washing, and wearing of masks.

The Youth Committee shall have the following elective offices

a. Chairperson
b. Vice Chairperson
c. General Secretary
d. Publicity Secretary
e. Secretary for Women Youth who shall be a female
f. Secretary for Student Affairs who shall be a student
g. Secretary for Labour Affairs
h. Secretary for Sports and Culture
i. Secretary for Finance
