The forum for democratic change FDC has blasted the ruling National Resistance Movement -NRM party for openly undermining the COVID-19 guidelines while holding their party primaries.

Semujju Nganda the FDC party spokesperson says the bad example portrayed by the NRM has set a platform for other Parties and Ugandans in general to abandon the ministry of health-MOH guidelines.

Among the guidelines put in place to regulate the spread of COVID-19 include social distancing, washing hands and sanitizing, wearing facemasks, not touching soft body parts like nose, eyes, and mouth among others.

However as the NRM continues to hold its polls in the primaries, the process has mostly been characterized by disregarding all the above, with voters going to the polls with no face masks, no social distancing, and polling stations lacking even hand washing facilities.

This, Semujju says will be hard to correct as many Ugandans going to the polls are very likely to follow in the same footsteps.

Semujju says it doesn’t make sense for the government to order people in taxis or in market places to social distance and wear masks when they have failed to monitor the same regulations in the primaries.

He attributes the spike in COVID -19 cases and deaths to the laxity portrayed in the NRM primaries and warns of tough times ahead.
