After over 14 days of temporal closure, Kawempe Police Station is set to reopen for normal business today when they conclude the disinfection process.
On the 9th of September, the police post was shut down to the general public after one suspect in their custody tested negative for COVID-19.
Since then, at least 14 suspects tested positive for COVID-19 14 days after the first case.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan police deputy spokesperson says since the closure, they have only been handling emergencies.
He has also established that the station will be disinfected today and normal business including the detention of suspects and patrols will resume.
He says the decision was reached after several COVID 19 tests have concluded that currently no staff member or suspect, is positive for the virus at Kawempe Police Station.
Owoyesigyire says so far Police officers attached to the post were isolated at the barracks for more than 2 weeks.
Uganda’s COVID-19 toll now stands at 7,530 positive cases and 73 deaths .
