National Unity strongman Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine arrived at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Ntinda on Tuesday at 9:30 AM.

Clad in a white plain suit, and a white bulletproof jacket, the NUP party president was escorted by his comrades in a grey parado .

They were ushered in by black-uniformed cops who were already stationed at the premises awaiting his arrival.

On Monday, Kyagulanyi failed to turn up at the EC because he was campaigning in parts of Karamoja and northern Uganda and didn’t want to miss it.

He was however represented by a team that didn’t satisfy the demands of the EC chief Justice Simon Byabakama who insisted that Kyagulanyi appears in person to settle his scores with the EC.

The team included Mathias Mpuuga the NUP chairperson for central, Joel Ssenyonyi, the spokesperson, Lewis Rubongoya the secretary-general, Medard Segona the NUP lawyer among others interacted with the opposition on behalf of the NUP party president Kyagulayi Robert Sentamu, who is busy campaigning in Northern Uganda.

According to Mpuuga, they discussed with the EC officials the grievances that Kyagulanyi faces during his country-wide campaigns and it was agreed that he personally meets the EC to harmonize a way forward.

Both Bobi wine and FDC’S Amuriat  Oboi were summoned by Justice Byabakama to appear in person at the EC headquarters on Monday the 14th Dec, over continuously disregarding the EC guidelines.

Amuriat was on Monday represented by Lawyer Galisonga who was given the same message as Bobi’s team.

The EC banned mass gatherings during the campaign period, only allowing aspiring candidates to host not more than 200 persons in their meetings.

On Monday Bobi responded in writing to the EC denying accusations of disregarding  COVID-19 campaign guidelines.

He instead accused police of breaching the law, blocking his party’s meetings, illegally holding them at roadblocks, and denying them access to accommodation.

These are matters we have brought to your attention generally but you have taken no action to ensure that the brutality stops and that the playing field is leveled for all candidates.”
