The NUP presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi wine has accused the Electoral Commission -EC of failing to carry out its mandate in handling the elections but instead siding with other state organs to break the law.
Bobi wine says Byabakama has failed to manage his office and has instead resorted to collaborating with state security organs like police and the military that are arresting, battering, and killing his supporters
‘’We are convinced that the EC is actually conspiring with those that are blocking us from campaigning, you all remember that even when our campaigns were not very different from those Museveni is having, and the EC summoned us, they have targeted us and are behind our blockages’’ Bobi Said.
While speaking to journalists on Tuesday afternoon at their Kamwokya based head offices, Bobi wine accused the EC boss Justice Byabakama of paying a deaf ear to their plight while police and the army continue to treat them unfairly on the campaign trail.
‘‘the Ec was silent when I was blocked from addressing the people of Kalangala, it is still silent about the illegal arrest and detention of our entire campaign team, as a presidential candidate, I have the right as other candidates but our team has always been harassed, our members have been murdered by security agencies but the Ec has pretended like nothing is happening, the most recent was the arrest of our entire campaign team in Kalangala, they continue to be detained in different locations and the EC is silent about that, ”he added.
He also accuses the EC boss of refusing them to campaigning in districts where the ban has not been instituted.
Kyagulanyi says the NUP made known their intentions to campaign in the districts that include Amolator, Pallisa, Kaliro, Kaberamaido,Kwania , Namutumba, Butebo, Ngora, Kalachi, Buyende, Bugweri, Bukedea, Serere and Dokolo.
Bobi says despite writing to the EC on campaigning in these districts, it has declined and blocked him from campaigning in any of these districts until he pens down a memorandum of understanding with them, which no other candidate has done.
‘‘But the EC this morning after moving us back and forth has said they will not allow us to campaign in these districts until we have a memorandum of understanding-mou, right now every other presidential candidate is campaigning, but for us besides being blocked by the police and military now we are being blocked by the EC, We condemn that and wanted to expose the double standards of the EC”he adds
Bobi says despite all this , he is ready to continue with his campaigns.
