Cabinet has approved a recommendation for the reopening of schools to non-candidate learners at undisclosed dates.
According to a statement from the cabinet ministers, schools will reopen in a spread over a period of time method to ensure compliance with Standard operating procedures.
However, the cabinet has suggested that the ministry of health and education and sports will first tour schools prior to the reopening to ascertain the preparedness of schools and institutions before reopening.
Parents will be expected to provide 2 masks for their children while in schools as part of the SOPs.
Also, pre-primary schools like the kindergarten will not be allowed to reopen yet because of the difficulty in toddlers observing the standard operating procedures.
The Ministers also resolved that in order to complete the academic year and ensure chain, all semi candidate classes, which include Primary Six, senior three, and senior five should report back to school in the short term and study with the candidate classes.
The ministers argue that given the fact that PLE will be completed on the 31st of March and UCE on the 6th of April, there will be more space in schools when candidates leave to enable other classes and study to complement homeschooling.
Vocational schools, universities will open in short term provided they adhere to SOPs.
