Mobile Money Agent Robbed And Shot Dead
Police in Fortportal is looking for unidentified armed robbers behind the shooting dead of a mobile money agent in Fort Portal.
Rayan Kaahwa was attacked by the goons at his mobile money shop in Futi Butangwa cell, Butebe Ward in North Division at about 9:30 pm on Wednesday night.
The Rwenzori West Regional Police Spokesperson, Vincent Twesige, says the two men claiming to be customers approached Kaahwa and requested to withdraw Shillings 1.2 million.
Twesigye says the gunmen shot Kaahwa in the shoulders and he fell down as he started initiating the withdraw.
Kaahwa was rushed to Virika Hospital in Fort Portal but died on arrival and his body has been taken to Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital awaiting postmortem report.
Eyewitness who reported the incident to police, say 2 thugs approached Kaahwa with guns and threatened him to remain silent or they shoot him, after which they grabbed a huge sum of money from his drawer before shooting him and running off.
Twesige says 2 men who recently rented a room adjacent to Kaahwa’s residence have so far been arrested in connection to the incident to help police with investigations.
This comes on the heels of another robbery and murder incident involving a Male mobile money agent in Bunyangabo district Saturday last week.
Robert Nyakaana was killed after unknown thugs raided his business premises, shot him in the leg before they made off with Shillings 300,000 and mobile phones worth Shillings 3.5 million.
Prior to that, a similar incident happened in Entebbe on the 24th of FEB 2021, Gian Nambi, met her death at Nalugala in Katabi Town Council at 8:50 pm just at the entrance of her home.
Nambi a mobile money agent, was gunned down by unknown assailants and robbed of an unspecified amount of money.
