The National Unity Platform (NUP) strongman Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has come out bold to attack the government for halting individuals from distributing food.
On Monday, Police mouthpiece Fred Enanga banned well-wishers from donating food items in person and instead donate through the various district taskforce teams.
”but the district task force has to ensure the food distributed is deemed fit for human consumption. Some people might give out beans and posho with high levels of aflatoxins, As much as we do appreciate this act, we want to urge the good Samaritans, political groups, and other well-wishers to work in coordination with the district task forces. .”Enanga said on Monday.
Wine says the regime is selfishly squeezing politicians and other leaders at the expense of starving Ugandans.
“The regime has come out to ban giving out food relief. This is exactly what they did during the last lockdown when we launched a drive to support our people in different areas. Some leaders like Hon. Zaake was arrested, tortured, and detained simply for giving out food support to starving citizens,” he stated.
He adds that less than 1 percent of vulnerable persons have benefited from the government’s relief cash package leaving the rest hopeless.
“ The regime promised Shs 100,000 to desperate citizens, as small as it was, has not reached even 1% of the deserving citizens. There is every indication that the people of Ugandans are completely on their own. There is every reason to fight on until the citizens free themselves from humiliation,” he said in a statement.
Information from the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development indicates that the government has so far given out 29 of 53 billion Shillings in relief cash to vulnerable persons affected by the current lockdown.
As of Monday 19th July, out of the targeted 501,107 household beneficiaries, 500,900 had been entered into the system and only 207 were yet to be uploaded.
