Music Legend Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone has finally spoken out on selling his music to Kasiwukira.

A few days back Kasiwukira’s lawyers came out and warned Chameleone and other musicians to forget about selling their music to Uga Tunes. This was after rumor suggested that Chameleone had already sold his music catalogue to online music platform, Uga Tunes.

This saw the late Kasiwukira’s lawyers, who was one of the biggest music promoters in the early 2000’s issue a massive warning to Chamili, Ronald Mayinja, Radio and Weasel, Ragga Dee Fred Ssebatta and others over selling some of their records because ‘they own the copyrights’.

Kasiwukira’s lawyers claimed to own over 7 albums of Chameleone which have platinum hit songs like Bei Kali, Mambo Bado, Jamila, Kuma Obwesigwa, Shida Za Dunia, Kipepeo and others.

Chameleone however denied ever selling his copyrights Kasiwukira but rather publishing rights and says he has all the agreements.

“I want people out there to know that music has over 10 steps. I only sold my Beyi Kali and Mambo Bado albums to Kasiwukira. Besides I sold publishing rights to him and not the copyright. He only had to put my music on tapes to sell it. If I had sold the copyright, it would mean I even don’t have the right to perform those songs on stage. People think that musicians are lazy and stupid but I still have all those agreements.” Chameleone said.

He also blasted those who are shouting and cautioning him over possible selling his music.

“The music is mine and i own all the copyrights. I’m free to sell it to whoever i want and when i decide to”, he asserted.

The issue of copyright is one that has dogged musicians for long.

Most of these do not earn from the sale of their music apart from holding performances.

It’s however one thing that the musicians said they discussed with General Saleh while in the Gulu caucus.
