VIDEO:Police Arrest Six People After Video Of Disco Lovers Surface Partying Hard At Forest Mall
The Police has arrested six people who were among the many revellers that were partying at a bar at Forest Mall in Lugogo, Kampala.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the six who include men and women will be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
They are currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station.
“They face charges of doing negligent acts likely to cause the spread of infections,” Owoyesigire said.
He however declined to reveal whether the bar owners were among those that were arrested.
The Enforcers on Sunday night raided Forest Mall after receiving several complaints of a huge gathering of revellers partying the night away.
Bars were among the leisure places that were banned from operating when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in March 2020.
One of the justifications President Yoweri Museveni made for closing such places was that inebriated people cannot control themselves.
Mr Owoyesigyire said many suspects didn’t have facemasks and were not observing social distance which put them at the risk of contracting Covid-19.
The Director of Police Operations, Mr Edward Ochom, has ordered the Police Professional Standards Unit to investigate police commanders for allowing suspended events to continue under their watch.
Mr Ochom suspects that the bar contravened the directives in full knowledge of police commanders in the area.
Three Months ago, President Museveni announced a 42-day lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19. He said entertainment centres that break the health guidelines should be stripped off their licence for good and managers fined heavily.
We did not get the management of the hotel for a comment as they were all arrested.
