Police nets jilted lover for strangling wife and concealing her death

Coleb Akandwanaho, 35, a is currently in police custody at Lyantonde for reportedly murdering his wife and making it look like she committed suicide.

Akandwanaho has been arrested at Masaka Central Police Station alongside two of his accomplices in murder, including a his sister (names withheld) and a shamba boy.

Akandwanaho, a resident of Romutunga village, Kaliiro sub-county is believed to have strangled his wife Sharon Nimurungi, 21, to death and locked her body together with their 4-months-old baby in the house on February 22, 2022.

He later run to police and reported a case of suicide, claiming the wife was distressed days prior to her demise. Police homicide cops investigated the incident and concluded that the deceased had indeed claimed her own life.

However, after her burial, relatives to the deceased cast doubt on the circumstances surrounding her death, saying she was killed by her husband. Family members who spoke on condition of anonymity claimed the couple was constantly fighting over the paternity of their baby with Akandwanaho accusing his wife of being unfaithful.

Muhammad Nsubuga, the Southern Regional Police spokesperson, says fresh information from ongoing investigations leaked, pointing to the fact that Akandwanaho killed Nimurungi and the information was concealed by his two accomplices.

The suspects have been charged with murder and conspiracy to murder contrary to Chapter 20, section 208 of the penal code act.
