The Chief Justice Alphonse Owiny-Dollo has finally bowed to pressure and penned a public apology over statements uttered against the person of the Kabaka of Buganda.

Last week while addressing mourners at late Oulanyah’s residence in Muyenga, CJ Owiny Dollo accused the fraternity of Baganda in the diaspora of being hypocritical by demonstrating against the government funding Speaker’s travel for treatment

He questioned why the same Buganda fraternity abroad remained silent while the State vomited millions out of courtesy to transport their ethnic head abroad.

But your ethnic leader,(Kabaka) was transported in a Presidential jet to Germany using public funds, yet he was not entitled, you didn’t demonstrate, is it because Oulanyah is an Acholi or that he doesn’t speak your language, a wicked person fights someone fighting for his life , a super wicked person fights a dead person,” he said

Now, according to an article in the Daily Monitor dated March 29, 2022, the Chief Justice has retracted untruthful statements made about the state funding the Kabaka, His Majesty  Ronald Muwenda Mutebi ii.

“I hereby unequivocally, unreservedly and of my free volition, wholly retract that reference and also hereby tender my apology to His Majesty the Kabaka. I will hereafter communicate to the Katikkiro of Buganda in writing, registering my apology, ” Owiny-Dollo said.

He also praised the Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga for responding with maturity towards his emotional outburst.

“In this regard, I do profusely hail the the Katikkiro for his press release which has demonstrated maturity, magnanimity, soberness and a conciliatory tone. That displays the true nature of the Buganda I have always proudly associated myself with.” he added.

The Chief Justice’s statements stirred wide spread debate on social media with many questioning the facts behind his utterances. Pictures of the Kabaka landing in Germany using KLM Airlines started circulating.

The Katikiro of Buganda Kingdom Charles Peter Mayiga on Friday last week reacted to emotional statements uttered by the Chief Justice of Uganda over the Kabaka ‘s treatment abroad.

In a statement released by Katikkiro Mayiga, he stresses that the utterances made by the Chief Justice were untrue. The Katikkiro asserts that the Kabaka has never used a presidential jet and more importantly, not to that trip in Germany abroad.

Death causes shock , grief and anguish and it often makes emotions run high. However, just for the record, when the Kabaka flew to Germany in August, 2021, he didn’t fly by the presidential jet but by KLM,” Mayiga said.

The Kabaka traveled to Germany in August 2021 to seek advanced medical care from medical experts for his allergy complications.  He also used the same trip to inspect the activities of his Kabaka Foundation in Germany where he met various subjects in the diaspora.
