Police in Kampala has confirmed the arrest of a lead suspect , donned in an National Resistance Movement (NRM), t-shirt while ruthlessly torturing a man on video.
In the video that went viral the previous week, a group of men covered in hoods at a guest house in Ggaba, Kampala, torture a man. One of the tormentors is seen clad in an NRM t shirt tying the legs and hands of the victim with barbed wire, while his body is burnt with molten plastic. The NRM party has since denied affiliation to the tormentors and incident.
Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga last week identified the suspect as 40 year old Brian Njuba, a plumber and resident of Lungujja in Lubaga division. Enanga says the victim was randomly lured from Lungujja the a guest house where he was tortured.
Enanga said the owner of the guest house, Brian Mushabwe, was arrested alongside a woman on duty identified as Mastullah Namaganda, receptionist for not recording the identities of the suspects in the registration book as regulations for hotels, lodges, and guest houses stipulate.
“The suspects were not booked at the guest house which makes their act a premeditated one. As a lesson to all other managers of hotels and guest houses, we have arrested the owner of the hotel and the person who was attending to that shift for taking the guidelines issued for granted,” he said
Enanga now says the Crime Intelligence Division has arrested the prime suspect in the incident. He identifies the suspect as one Abdurahman Wejule who was captured using surveillance techniques.
He noted that the receptionist booked the suspects but also allowed them to use her phone to call and lure Njuba from Lungujja to Ggaba from where he was tortured from.
“We established that the suspects used her phone to lure Njuba to the guest house. She further directed him(Njuba) to room number six from where he was tortured. We are continuing to track the remaining suspects because we believe they were two other three during this act We are doing everything possible to ensure justice is served.”
