The Uganda Prisons spokesperson, Frank Baine says security agencies will not hold an end of year party this year to minimize the risk of errant attacks from unknown gun men or rebel groups.

While addressing journalists at the police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala, Baine stated that parties congregate a huge number of security operatives in one place and cause unnecessary excitement that distracts officers from their sworn duties.

He explained that considering the recent attacks of security institutions and theft of guns, it is likely that there will be a lapse if matters are not taken seriously.

“Sometimes by the time people get out of that excitement, they are not in charge of their mental faculty. So we want that vigilance to be maintained . It is our duty that when the public is celebrating we are watchmen,” he said
