A19-year-old man has been netted for sexually molesting a five year old girl in Kololo West village, Vurra Parish in Tara sub-county, Maracha District.
The suspect identified as Habibu Apiku, allegedly defiled the minor in his room on Friday evening after enticing her with sweets and biscuits. The girl’s both parents were reportedly absent when the incident happened, and unfortunately, immediate neighbours were equally unaware of the happenings.
Local authorities say by the time the parents returned, the girl was in profuse pain, bleeding from her wounds on her private parts that she sustained during the ruthless attack. Apiku had also fled into hiding.
Apiku was later found at Kololo Trading Centre on Monday by angry locals who had launched a manhunt for him following the discovery. The locals who were armed with sticks, stones and clubs attempted to lynch the the suspect but he narrowly survived with the arrival of police.
He is currently being held at Maracha Central police station on charges of aggravated defilement, awaiting his appearance in courts of law.
